IOPC colleagues on a staircase

From 28 October and throughout November the IOPC phone line will be running at a reduced capacity, due to operational pressures.  If you call our Customer Contact Centre you may experience a significant wait time.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, however, we encourage you to read the information on our website and follow our FAQs for advice regarding the complaints process. You can submit a police complaint via the IOPC online form or contact the police force directly. Normal service will resume from 02 December.

Call us

0300 020 0096

We welcome telephone calls in Welsh (option 2).

Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Calls may be recorded for training and monitoring purposes. Please note, lines are closed on bank holidays.

To make a complaint about the police, please use our online complaints form.

Please note, if you are contacting us about something you have seen on social media, in the news, or heard about from another person, you may not be considered to be negatively affected meaning your complaint may not be processed. Further information on this is available in our Statutory guidance on the police complaints system.

Email us

[email protected]

We aim to respond to any direct queries within ten working days, but this may not be possible during exceptionally busy periods. We advise you read our automatic acknowledgement email that covers many questions about the process before chasing a response from us. Please note that our computer systems are not able to receive attachments larger than 7.5 megabytes in size.

If you have copied us in to an email which is addressed to someone else, we are unlikely to respond and the email will be deleted. This applies if it is unclear if your email is directed to us, or if it relates to something outside of our remit. Such correspondence will be held for 90 days and then deleted in line with our policies.

Write to us

We encourage you to contact us by email, rather than post. All correspondence and supporting documentation received will be copied electronically. The paperwork will then be securely destroyed after 21 days unless the sender requests that the originals be retained, in which case they will be returned by standard delivery post.
