Investigation

On 3 October 2017 Merseyside Police arrested a man and transported him to Wirral custody suite.

The man appeared compliant until he was searched, at which point he became aggressive and resisted officers and staff. The man fell to the floor in the process, and suffered an injury to his left knee.

Our investigators reviewed CCTV footage and the man’s custody record. As the man declined to participate in the investigation, we were unable to examine his medical records.

The investigation found that the man’s injury was likely caused when he fell to the floor while being restrained.

Based on the evidence available, the investigation found no indication that any person serving with the police may have behaved in a manner that would justify the bringing of disciplinary proceedings.
