Investigation

On 22 March 2017 Leicestershire Police executed a search warrant regarding the uploading of indecent images and videos of children to the internet. During the search, indecent images of children were found on a laptop identified as belonging to a suspect. The suspect was not present during the search, but did make contact with an investigating officer, who advised them that they may be required to attend a police station for a voluntary interview at a later date. The following day Leicestershire Police launched a high-risk missing person investigation to find the suspect, after they were reported missing. The suspect was found dead the same day.

Our investigators conducted a detailed examination of the evidence. They obtained witness statements from police officers, members of the public and others.

The investigation concluded there was no indication any police officer had behaved in a manner that would justify the bringing of disciplinary proceedings or had committed a criminal offence.

After reviewing our report, Leicestershire Police agreed.
