False incident report - Cleveland Police

Investigation overview

Our investigation into the actions of police after being made aware of a fight in Hartlepool town centre in March 2019 followed a referral from Cleveland Police in April 2019. The investigation concluded in December 2019.

Outcome

We found one officer, PC Robert Coffey, had case to answer for gross misconduct. Following a hearing, arranged by Cleveland Police, he was dismissed without notice.
