A West Mercia Police officer is due in court to face a charge of causing serious injury by careless driving.

PC Karl Lacey, aged 49, will appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (14 September). He was driving a marked police car whilst urgently responding to a report of a stolen vehicle, when a collision took place with an unrelated member of the public’s car.

The collision, which happened on Stratford Road, Henley-in-Arden on 10 July 2022, left the driver of the other car with serious injuries.

Our investigation began in July last year, following a mandatory referral from the force. In December 2022, we completed our investigation and sent a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, which authorised the charge. After working together to build a case, a charge was authorised in July 2023.
