Metropolitan Police - alleged abuse of position to access confidential information.
A senior officer working with the Metropolitan Police Service is under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct over alleged abuse of their position to access confidential information.
The allegations relate to an occasion in 2018 where the officer is said to have received and made use of confidential information from a third party as part of disciplinary proceedings.
The officer has been served notice that they are subject to misconduct investigation and a criminal investigation in relation to alleged breaches of Section 55 Data Protection Act.
The serving of a notice does not mean that misconduct or criminal proceedings will necessarily follow. Misconduct notices do not imply guilt but are to inform the officer that their behaviour and conduct are under investigation and the level of severity. Such notices are not judgemental in any way.
