IOPC confirms referrals following arrest of MPS officer
The Independent Office for Police Conduct can confirm that we have today received two referrals from the Metropolitan Police Service linked to the conduct of an MPS officer arrested on suspicion of kidnap, murder and indecent exposure.
The officer was originally arrested on Tuesday 9 March in connection with the disappearance of Sarah Everard.
Following assessment we determined that both conduct referrals relating to the kidnap/murder and indecent exposure should remain under local investigation by the force.
We have also received a mandatory referral in relation to the actions of police after Sarah was reported missing.
This is still being assessed to determine what further action may be required from us.
As there is an ongoing and fast-moving MPS police investigation, it would not be appropriate to say more at this time.
