Terry Smith died in hospital 24 hours after being detained by Surrey Police under the Mental Health Act in the Stanwell area of Staines on Tuesday 12 November 2013 following a call for assistance from an ambulance crew. The independent investigation is looking at the length of time Mr Smith was restrained and the methods used by police, as well as his transportation to Staines Police Station custody suite.
